How to Build an Ever-Better Future

Are you facing  a life transition? You are not alone. We change careers. We move from being parents of children to parents of adults with their own children; we go from being single to married, from the military to civilian life, from employed to retired.

There are two ways of looking at these life transitions: losing something you had or an opportunity to forge something new.

The loss point of view is common. People get depressed after retiring. Star athletes and actors often spiral when their careers end. Military veterans experience a crisis of unmet expectations in civilian life. Spouses die soon after their lifetime partners pass away.

Loss is not the only way to view transition. You can also seize the opportunity to create something new.

Find out who you are. And do it on purpose.

Finding new Purpose, Belonging, and Well-being is the secret to an ever-better future. Purpose means the impact you want to have in this next phase of your life, personally, professionally, family, community, etc. Belonging means pursuing those purposes with people of shared connection who want what’s best for you and support you along the way. Well-being is your physical, emotional, and spiritual capacity to make the journey.

You have to have all three.

Without Purpose, you feel adrift. Lack of Belonging makes you feel isolated and alone. Inadequate well-being means that you cannot go the distance.

You get ever-better when you have all three working together. Purpose and Belonging create Joy. Purpose and Well-Being build Hope, and Belonging and Well-being inspire Love. Together, they lead to an ever-better future.

Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.
